Zaldivar is a Cuban painter who graduated from the Professional Academy of Fine Arts “El Alba” in Holguín, Cuba. His works are a mix of magical realism, surrealism, and illustration—works with a deep poetic sense, which address issues such as the meaning of life, freedom, religion, death, loneliness, power, and exile. Modern Musings will include abstraction impressionist pieces, largely acrylics and drawings, featuring landscapes and portraits of modern muses.
Meet us at the Gallery, 315 Main Street, across the street from the Forum Theatre in Metuchen.
Gallery Hours: Wednesdays from 6–8pm and Sundays from 1–3pm from April 12–June 28.
Upcoming Exhibition: Summer Vibes
Call for Art: Summer Vibes
It’s been so cold the past couple weeks that when it finally hit the freezing mark it felt downright balmy. These single digit days have us wishing for summer—so much so that we’re planning an exhibition of local art around the idea.
If you’ve created or want to create art with a summery vibe, we want to see it! Think beaches, ice cream, fireworks, Lana Del Rey songs—whatever way you wish to mark the season.
Submissions will be due June 7, 2026
Submission details coming soon.

Metuchen Inspirations with Betsy Robin Schwartz and Adam Fensterheim
Our current exhibit, “Metuchen Vibes,” has a piece by Adam Fensterheim inspired by the poem “Someone Is Singing: A Poem for Metuchen’s Centennial https://betsy0201.wixsite.com/about/poetry/someone-is-singing by international award-winning poet Betsy Robin Schwartz https://betsy0201.wixsite.com/about
Along with reading her poetry, Betsy discussed her Metuchen-inspired writing and how Metuchen has inspired other writers. Adam discussed how the poem inspired him as a Metuchen artist. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with and share memories with Betsy, Adam, and other Metuchen Vibes artists.
WE’RE GLAD YOU CAME on September 21, 2025, at 2pm for the lively performance and discussion about Metuchen’s Centennial and literary heritage. Stay tuned for more events from Friends of Metuchen Arts.
