Celebrating the Colors of India
A juried art exhibition opening
October 11, 1-4pm
As we welcome the vibrant festival of Diwali, we invite you to view a juried art exhibition celebrating the rich artistic heritage and cultural diversity of India. We are featuring original works inspired by the many folk art traditions from various regions of India, as well as paintings, portraits, and slice-of-life photographs that beautifully capture the people, landscapes, traditions, and everyday life of India.
Guest Curator: Preeti Singh
Meet Preeti Singh, our guest curator for the Celebrating the Colors of India exhibition opening this Sunday, October 11, from 1- 4 p.m. at the Friends of Metuchen Arts Gallery, 315A Main Street, Metuchen.
Preeti is an exhibiting artist and educator with extensive experience in studio art, art history, and arts programming. In India, she lectured in Fine Arts, teaching studio art and art history to undergraduate and graduate students. In Metuchen, she was one of the founding board members who helped initiate the Rotunda Gallery. As Director of the gallery (2012), I invited and curated exhibitions featuring regional artists, including an international exhibition showcasing the work of nine Indian artists.
For many years, she has taught at Westerhoff School of Music and Art, and has been involved in organizing end-of-semester student exhibits. Through teaching, curating, and community-based arts programming, she has enjoyed creating opportunities for artists and students to share their work and connect with a wider audience.
Says Preeti, "As a teacher and practicing artist, I encourage students to develop their creative thinking while learning the skills to translate ideas into form, color, and visual expression. I believe that exploring different techniques, methods, and materials sparks curiosity, imagination, and excitement. For me, it is important that students engage in both making and thinking about art, and to experience the creative process as a joyful and meaningful experience!"

Metuchen Inspirations with Betsy Robin Schwartz and Adam Fensterheim
Our current exhibit, “Metuchen Vibes,” has a piece by Adam Fensterheim inspired by the poem “Someone Is Singing: A Poem for Metuchen’s Centennial https://betsy0201.wixsite.com/about/poetry/someone-is-singing by international award-winning poet Betsy Robin Schwartz https://betsy0201.wixsite.com/about
Along with reading her poetry, Betsy discussed her Metuchen-inspired writing and how Metuchen has inspired other writers. Adam discussed how the poem inspired him as a Metuchen artist. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with and share memories with Betsy, Adam, and other Metuchen Vibes artists.
WE’RE GLAD YOU CAME on September 21, 2025, at 2pm for the lively performance and discussion about Metuchen’s Centennial and literary heritage. Stay tuned for more events from Friends of Metuchen Arts.
